Born in Rome, the Italian Central Saint Martins graduate created the couture house founded in Paris of the same name in 2005. Influenced by his birthplace and Italian mythology, as well as Sofia Loren, Claudia Cardinale and Marella Agnelli, films by Antonioni, Yves Saint Laurent watercolors and drawings by Gruau, he presented his first ready-to-wear collection during Paris Fashion Week in 2005. After opening his ateliers in Jean-Baptiste Lully's historic apartments on rue Boissy-d'Anglas in Paris in 2009, Giambattista Valli opened his first boutique in 2010 in the same building. He presented his "Collection haute couture n°1" in May 2011 as an invited member to Paris haute couture Fall/Winter 2011-2012 Fashion Week. That December, he was officially recognized as a designer of haute couture by the Commission de Classement Couture Création and presented his "Collection haute couture n°2" in January 2011. Today, the label has over 235 selling stations in over 39 countries around the world. His clothes have been popular among celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Natalie Portman, Halle Berry, Zoe Saldana, Brooke Shields, Diane Kruger, Penélope Cruz, Julianne Moore, Jessica Biel and Queen Rania of Jordan as well as Princess Clotilde Courau.
