Mattijs van Bergen launched his eponymous label in 2008, after studying at the Institute of Fine Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands, and then in London at Central Saint Martins College. His neoclassical designs are famed for their unique use of color, high-quality fabrics, and superior craftsmanship. His cuts are often tailored and exhibit sculptural use of pleating, creating garments that are modern, yet undefined by season. The Mattijs woman is fresh, lively, and feminine. As a result, Mattijs has received numerous accolades. For example, British Vogue called him “[o]ne of the most promising young designers”, and Dutch Elle described him as the "[c]rown prince of Dutch Fashion” and “King of Pleats”.
